Summer in Stable Tunis

The month of August is almost finished, but summer is still here in Egypt, and we have to deal with high temperatures and the well-being of our beloved horses. Let’s check it out !

Summer vibes in Stable Tunis!

It’s still summer. The sun is still shining. And it is really hot, when we are talking about the Egyptian Summer! The temperatures will slowly go down during September, and the Egyptian touristic season will really start all over the country, not just on the coasts. But in the meantime, while preparing for the new season, we are still taking deep care of our horses with special summer treatments.

Let’s read about our summer routine !  Moreover, we will also tell you a secret, about why is it still a wonderful idea to come and visit us in summertime, even if it is hot…

So, in summertime, from end of May to beginning of August, with the highest temperatures in July and August, it’s time to shower – all day long if we have to – so that our beautiful horses stay cool and refreshed. Daily showers, resting in the shady areas and windy boxes and a lot of water drinking is the key to survive the hot temperatures – and not just for the horses. Some would say that it is not good to shower horses every day, but with our very high temperatures we need to cool our horses down as much as possible !

In this time of the year, we have to check out every horse many times in the day, to follow their health status. Indeed, heat stroke can happen anytime, and our horses can catch some summertime sickness, mostly because of insects, which we can treat well and are used to, but which we have to identify quickly. Our stables are also equipped with ventilators, to try to cool it down as much as we can. Moreover, we try to tool up with some creams, treatments and tricks we learnt with experience to prevent and treat skin diseases horses can also have in these hot months. Yes, summer can hit our beloved animals hard, even if they are “the horses of the desert”… But our team definitely know how to handle and support them the maximum possible !

Apart from special horses’ care and checking of the summer, what is about life in the stables, in our place, in our Tunis village and our Sahara ? Well, also us, we are waiting for the sunset and cooler temperatures ! But then, when the sun comes slowly down, and the night wind starts to come, a lovely sunset ride is waiting for us. Then, it is a real pleasure to go out around  the lake and in the fields of the oasis, with an evening fresh air, which horses and riders enjoy a lot alike. During the day, we like to hang around in the garden or by the pool, and of course in the chilly stable, spending time checking on our horses.

But then, what about Sahara during summer ? Well, if you thought that we could live without our magical Sahara for two months… The answer is, of course, NO ! Summer is just a question of timing. Indeed, in June, and mostly July and August, we CAN go on Sahara horse-riding adventures, but we have to go very early in the morning or later in the afternoon than during the high season, for sunset time and the beginning of the night. In fact, this is not a real problem, as summer’s sunrises and sunsets are also pure magic. The adrenaline you get to wake up in the night to go on a sunrise Sahara trip, with such a cool weather early in the morning, or the feeling you get when sunset is coming with a fresh air in the desert… Is wonderful. See ? We always have a solution for everything ! Moreover, while on desert tours to the Magic Lake, we can have a perfect swim time in the lake with the horses. So perfect, right ? To finish, please know that safaris by car and excursions are also possible during summer, with a more flexible timing, as being inside the car is ok, no need to take care of the cars as we have to be careful for our dear horses… Thus, we still recommend to go early in the morning and late in the afternoon, even by safari car ! Dinners in the desert and camping nights can be very chill and relaxing, as the weather is still warm enough to sleep with very light sleeping materials and clothes, under the Sahara shooting stars…

Last but not least… We wanted to tell you a secret: here it is. If you come to visit us during summertime, you will for sure find less visitors compared to the rest of the year and the high touristic season. Tunis village and our home can be quieter than usual, and you can find us, meet us and discover our place, horses and story in a very peaceful and quiet time of the year. You can discover the life over there in another rhythm, following the natural timing of the day decided by the sun itself, a rhythm that you won’t maybe find everywhere. Indeed, the big cities, the very touristic sites of Egypt and other touristic hot countries can still be crowded even in July and August, as it is for sure a huge touristic time of the year in the whole world. But in a place like ours, a very emotional peace can be found during summertime…

Welcome to Stable Tunis and our adventures!
